We believe that the greatest form of sustainability is to produce work of lasting value. In that spirit we endeavour to design products that are simple, beautiful, and functional.
Design
As a practice, we recognize that our greatest impact can be achieved in the design stage. Borrowing from the permaculture mantra of earth care, people care, fair share, we recognize that sustainability, in all forms, must be at the core of what we produce without compromising on quality. We contribute to the positive evolution of working practices in our field and can bring awareness to customers by realigning perceptions of value and beauty. We make products that we want to use ourselves, are proud to share with others, and will not compromise the lives of future generations.
Materials
Recognizing the impact that quarrying, deforestation, mining, and the harvesting of materials has on our planet, we strive to be better stewards of the environment. We are keenly aware that we have not yet reached optimal efficiency and feel strongly compelled to continuously rethink our relationship with natural resources in order to better preserve global habitats. We are constantly reexamining our existing products and continue to develop new pieces with this critical focus.
Whenever possible we use reclaimed timber, recycled glass, and recyclable metals. Stone, one of the most abundant materials on earth, is quarried domestically within India to reduce transportation and carbon emissions. Each product we make is designed in a way that can be dismantled into components ensuring easy repair and prolonged use. When no longer required, they can be recycled efficiently by separating into individual materials.
We also continue to research and explore new designs using natural materials like bamboo and jute that are plentiful in India and support local craft collectives as well as farmers.
Production
Traditional craft and ethical production practices are critical factors in our efforts towards sustainable manufacturing. We care deeply about developing unique products in environments where tradition and skill can be applied, nourished, and ultimately celebrated. We collaborate with artisans from all over India to identify, develop, and promote appropriate methods, be they centuries old crafts or more efficient contemporary technologies. How our pieces are developed and manufactured matters to us and we believe it should matter to you as well.
